How to Keep Children Busy at Home During a Pandemic

Every family in the country has been affected by the COVID-19 outbreak in some way, whether it is strict social distancing rules, businesses being shut down, and the shortage of essential supplies. This pandemic has affected children as well, with most schools remaining closed until further notice.

Now, if you are wondering how to keep your children busy while this outbreak has caused major changes in your life, our Montessori school in Gaithersburg, Maryland is here to help. We have come up with the following suggestions:

  • Establish a routine.
Giving your children some form of stability helps them feel safe. Maintain a consistent daily schedule with regards to sleep and mealtimes.
  • Encourage them to stay active.
Prepare activities for your children, such as cooking or making arts and crafts. Allow them to choose what they want to do, too.
  • Let them earn their screen time.
Avoid letting your children spend too much time watching TV or playing video games. Instead, let them earn their screen time by devising a rewards system. If, for example, they make their bed, then they earn a certain number of hours on their phone.

Our preschool in Maryland hopes these suggestions help you and your children during these trying times!
